Campaigners fighting plans for 2,700 new homes, the majority to be built in the green belt, have started their fightback after the proposals were approved by senior councillors.

Members of the Save Tong and Fulneck Valley Assoc-iation will later this month lead a protest walk through the green belt areas earmarked for the development of 1,800 homes under the Holme Wood and Tong Neighbourhood Develop-ment Plan. They will also pass through the Holme Wood estate, where hundreds of homes are set to be built.

The plans, which also aim to improve infrastructure on the estate, were approved in January by members of Bradford Council’s executive committee and will be used to inform discussions over the new Local Development Framework.

The association’s chairman Canon Gordon Dey said: “It’s important that the other political parties as well as the Labour Group are aware of the strength of public feeling against this. I think it’s important local people understand this is not the end of the story, there are opportunities to be energetically opposed to it. Sometimes people feel all is lost, well all is not lost.

“We are still finding people that haven’t grasped the true effect of this.”
