Government Planning Inspector to Consider Leeds Core Strategy Next Monday Onwards

Next Monday, 7 October, sees the start of the Planning Inspector Hearing Sessions to determine whether or not the Leeds LDF Core Strategy is accepted or rejected by the Government Planning Inspector.  This is probably the last opportunity to mount a final challenge regarding the totally unrealistic housing target numbers of 70,000 units set by Leeds CC despite having a far lower percentage increase in population than other major cities like Bradford, Leicester, Sheffield and Bristol.

Individuals and groups who have already submitted written comments on the LDF Core Strategy will be entitled to make oral representations at these hearing sessions but members of the public are also entitled to attend and witness the proceedings.  Wharfedale & Airedale Review Development, Aireborough Neighbourhood Forum and Aireborough Civic Society, together with Stuart Andrew MP Pudsey, will all be speaking on behalf of Aireborough.  All of us will be vigorously attacking the Leeds CC proposals and pointing out the anomalies with regard to Census figures and housing targets when compared to other major cities.  We will also be urging the inspector to examine closely the lack of infrastructure – public transport, traffic congestion, schools, doctors and dentists – which we consider completely inadequate to deal with the proposed increase in population for Aireborough.

Once the hearing sessions are completed we will not be informed immediately whether or not the Leeds Core Strategy has been accepted or rejected by the Government Planning Inspector.  He will need to go away and write his report which could take several weeks.  We can, of course, speculate on the results in the light of how the sessions progress.
